The development of a green corridor - one that will provide missing ecological services, economic opportunities in alien invasive removal and urban farming, as well as health-giving recreational space to the public – requires conceptual aptitude and technical acumen. But it also requires consistency and a discipline that is a hallmark of the functioning of Water for the Future’s team, which is present so much of their achievements to date:
from the establishment of waterwise indigenous grasses, countering the majority of unwanted alien plan regrowth; to generating media coverage (RSG radio, News24, Reuters, Engineering News, Construction World, Global Citizen, Good Things Guy etc.) which have provided valuable exposure to the area; hosting over 100 people on guided walks - local government representatives, women from the area, local business including Bruma Landowners’ Association, other affected water bodies namely GATHA (Alexandra-based grassroots river-cleaning group), ARMOUR, Hennops River, and Braamfontein Spruit; creating urban tourism opportunities in nature from 2022; facilitating same-day, three emergency sewage pipe-unblocking by Department Of Water and Sanitation; to holding educational treasure hunts and art projects with the neighbourhood child population -
